September Student of the Month Winners!

1ST SESSION

According to their respective instructors:

Vanessa Cortez, Graphic Communications II, West Aurora High School
“I’m nominating Vanessa for being awesome!  It doesn’t matter what I throw at her, she figures it out.  Vanessa is always positive and willing to help her classmates, too.”

Jacob Needham, Fire Science I, Kaneland High School
“Jacob Needham has been identified by his instructors and peers for demonstrating strengths in the areas of:  character, attitude and disposition; respectfulness; class attendance; hands-on participation; leadership and responsibility; fire service spirit; good work ethic; and conduct.  The FVCC Fire Science program recognizes these characteristics as essential traits for future employment in today’s fire service.”

Joseph Troy, Auto Technology I, Central High School
“Joe is a hard working student in class.  He is not afraid to ask questions when he needs help but always tries to problem solve himself.  This is a trait that has become less common and not often seen.  The ability to solve problems is needed on a daily basis in the automotive repair field.  I hope Joe has an interest in automotive technology as a career choice, as he has the ability to excel.”

2ND SESSION

According to their respective instructors:

Jasmine Cabral, Auto Technology I, Kaneland High School
“Since the first day of school, Jasmine has been working hard.  She is first to jump into any project and works well with others.  In a group task, she takes the lead and delegates tasks evenly across the group so every member is busy and contributing.  She is not afraid to take on a large project.  Recently, she and another student took on the task of replacing ball joints in a Chevy Tahoe.  This is a great deal of physical work and requires an understanding of how all the suspension parts fit together.  Jasmine and her partner completed the job perfectly.  Jasmine has the ability to do well in the automotive field if she continues at this pace.”

Colin Duffy, Web Development, West Aurora High School
“It was hard to pick a Student of the Month from this group.  There are so many perfect scores and helpful people that I am really proud of!  Colin not only gets his work done, he also has a never-ending supply of patience.  He has helped students around him with coding issues without complaint.  I’m really impressed by how self-reliant Colin is on a daily basis.”

Alyssa Evertsen, Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice, St. Charles East High School
“Alyssa’s dedication and enthusiasm has had a significant impact on every other student in Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice.  She volunteered her time and energy by designing sweatshirts and t-shirts for all three class sections and collected all necessary payments in a most efficient and convincing manner.  In addition, Alyssa purchased her own simulated training pistol to be used in classroom tactical exercises (color, pink).  She has truly been a positive force to be reckoned with and that’s why I have nominated her for Student of the Month.”

Brianna Seybold, Basic Nurse Assistant Training (BNAT), Geneva High School
“Bri comes to class with a positive attitude and is a leader and well-liked by her peers.  She is an invaluable addition to our classroom by making intelligent and insightful contributions.  Congratulations!”

Tyler Stanford, Horticulture II, Central High School
“This is the second year Tyler has been in Horticulture, and he started out the year as a leader.  Getting the greenhouse operational and cleaning up the gardens were our early priorities, and he was able to take charge with minimal instruction and show other students what needed to be done.  Tyler has a delightful, easy going personality, and he gets along with all of the other students.  He has a good eye for the scope of our daily projects and knows how to follow through to completion, including clean up and putting tools away.  Tyler is eager to learn and passionate about horticulture.”

3RD SESSION

According to their respective instructors:

Mike Romano, Welding I, Kaneland High School
“Mike shows tremendous effort and is able to learn new techniques and procedures by working through problems and obtaining excellent results.  He displays an excellent attitude, has been a quick learner and is always willing to take on the tasks assigned.  Congratulations to Mike in achieving September Student of the Month!”

Cameron Skaja, Fire Science II, Central High School
“Cameron Skaja has been identified by his instructors and peers for demonstrating strengths in the areas of:  character, attitude and disposition; respectfulness; class attendance; hands-on participation; leadership and responsibility; extracurricular activities; fire service spirit; good work ethic; and conduct.  The FVCC Fire Science program recognizes these characteristics as essential traits for future employment in today’s fire service.”

Jacob Sussland, PC Maintenance, Repair & Networking, Kaneland High School
“Jacob is quiet, but extremely helpful.  He makes sure that his grades are excellent and gets a lot done!  He doesn’t give up when trying to fix a problem, and he’s always willing to help out other groups when he gets a chance.”

Hunter Willard, Powersports & Equipment Technology I, Central High School
“Hunter came to my class ready to learn and continues this attitude every day.  He is always asking questions about what we are doing in the shop as well as questions about things he is working on at home.  He comes in prepared to work and gets busy as soon as we get into the shop.  He recently took on a customer lawn mower that did not run.  Hunter found the problem, made the repairs and verified that is was back to proper working order.  During the entire process, he kept everything organized and asked questions when he could not figure it out.  His work ethic and attitude will take him very far in this field.”

Jacob Violett, Graphic Communications II, Kaneland High School
“I’m nominating Jacob for kicking the year off with a “can do” attitude.  He has helped other students without being asked.  Jacob just steps in quietly and really helps others out.  His approach to design and exploring new technical skills is at such a higher level of professionalism compared to last year, and he is just really positive to be around.”
